A commentary - Benjamin Sun
Sorry, you won't see a link, information or pictures on this site to Matrox's next generation part that are floating around the Net. There are purported Matrox specs around the net and I thought I'd offer a commentary without discussing the information presented, because that would be inappropiate.

It really ticks me off, when a website or news organization posts propietary information that's not meant to be released information before it's meant to be released, no matter what the information is.

As a matter of principle, being first to the Net with information isn't always the way to go . People lose jobs , if the wrong information is given at the wrong time. It can affect buying decisions, make a orderly  product launch a big mess and can cause other unspecified problems for the companies involved.

It doesn't matter if the site is under NDA. As a matter of principle , when one deals with companies , one respects the companies' wishes on matters such as releasing information on specs, financial data or the like.

Sorry for the rant, be back here on the 14th ...

Bad Abit Customer Support - Joe Glass
I got this email from a frustrated reader regarding the SPDIF connector for the Abit NV7m. Sounds like bad customer service Abit!
Call to Abit made on May 9, 2002

I called abit technical support at 4:07 and spoke with Jeff in technical support. I told him i was trying to find the spdif connector for my nv-7m, he didnt even hint that this part wasnt available. He told me that i needed to call the parts department and gave me the phone number of 510-623-0500 to contact them.

I then called the parts department at 4:16 pm. I spoke with (girl wouldnt give me her name). She put me on hold asap. She told me that they didnt make such a part. Then some guy got on the phone and told me that the part wasnt going to be made and had been dropped from production and then said thank you and hung up.

What is really upsetting is that if you reference this url

you will find that abit themselves say you should buy this part.  I say this is false advertising.  now im stuck buying a new board.  Whats even worse is they designed another board based on the nforce (NV7-133R) that has a much different header yet HAS 6 channel output and spdif in/out.

I think im going to file a complaint with the bbb and contact anyone i can about this as being someone that doesnt have a ton of cash, im stuck now buying the board i want (although i wont be buying from abit, ill be buying from msi from now on)

The Reverend's Geforce4 Ti4400 review - Benjamin Sun
The Reverend over at Beyond3d has a review of the Visiontek Geforce4 Ti4400 up Click here to read the review. Here's a snip:
Having spent quite a bit of time with the VisionTek XTASY GeForce4 Ti4600 prior to this review of the "lesser brother", I was pleasantly surprised that I did not really miss Ti4600. The VisionTek XTASY GeForce4 Ti4400 offers really enjoyable gaming as long as you learn to live with its obvious limitations (and which card doesn't have limits?).

GotApex's Asus Ti4400 review - Benjamin Sun
Darth over at GotApex has a review of the Asus V8440/DVI based on the Ti4400 chip from Nvidia. Click here to read the review Here's a snip:
"It's no surprise, then, that Asus should release their own take on the GeForce 4 Ti 4400. Not quite as feature-rich as a Gainward Golden Sample, but backed by decent tech support and years of experience, as well as plenty of software in a day when bundles get pushed off for hardware features not everyone needs. Let's be clear right off, this isn't a card for the overclocker. What Asus has done is create a somewhat basic card for everyone else, a card for folks looking to get the performance they paid for from a company known to make quality cards.

Hercules In Trouble - Benjamin Sun
It looks like Hercules/Guillemot/Thrustmaster is in financial trouble :(. Here's the evidence

1.Their  website has been offline for a while now
2. Their PR manager abruptly left last week
3. Today there's been a statement from Kelly Ramsay , their director of marketing on HardOCP Click here for the source:
Currently we are realigning our company to be better in touch with our customers and end users, and in that regard are making staffing changes accordingly.  There are neither ‘official’ statements nor specific details available at this time.
